Eric Jeongs Testimony:

When I found out that I would have to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed, I was extremely frightened, to say the least. Having a horrible phobia of needles, and anything to do with doctors and blood, it was a difficult decision for me to even make a dentist appointment. I delayed getting my wisdom teeth removed as long as I possibly could until it was intolerable to eat because of the pain. When I finally had to courage to ask my girlfriend to make the appointment for me (because I was to afraid to make it myself), the staff at the Sierra Dental Studio for booked an appointment for me with Dr. David.

Arriving at my appointment caused my anxiety to grow. As soon as I entered the door, however, the staff was nicer and more supportive than I could have imagined. As they brought me to the room, I was nervous, neurotic, I was unable to concentrate, as my surroundings were constant reminders of things that happen in horror movies. I was sweating, and could not calm down for the life of me. Then Dr. David walked in, and introduced himself; he could probably tell that I was very uncomfortable with the situation I was in. But in a very calm, relaxing, humorous manner, he was explaining the situation to me, and described in detail what my options were. One of my teeth would be difficult to remove, and there were naturally more risks that came with this. Despite this fact, as he was explaining my options, I slowly felt relieved and the nervousness melted away. I was surprised at Dr. David’s professionalism. Not only did he explain my options, he did not assume that I would be getting my teeth removed by him. He gave me options of going to any other dentist. I appreciated this and felt very confident in him.

The day of the operation, the nurses, staff, and Dr. David helped me to feel very comfortable during the whole appointment. I did opt to have the treatment under the condition where I would be least aware. I was comfortable and before I knew it, the operation was over. I felt nothing, and he was able to take out all four without me even knowing it. The operation went smoothly, and much quicker than I had expected, all my friends told me to be prepared to be in there for 2-3 hours. Dr. David was finished in 1.5 hours. I recovered within 2 days and was eating normally after 3 days. I wouldn't hesitate for Dr. David to do this all again if necessary, but thankfully wisdom teeth only grow in once in a lifetime.

Tracey's Story - Part 1

Earlier this evening Shouresh prepared a Full Upper Arch for me.

I have to say I have been extremely stressed about this appointment given my fear of dentists (very wierd given I work in one) However being a classic British case my experience with Dentistry has been far from positive in the past.

Today - I can put all these fears aside !!! I have had two crowns done by Frank in the past and was amazed at the care and lack of pain, but found it difficult to believe a Full Upper Arch would be as painless.

Shouresh and his team (Karolina and Stephanie) have lived with my constant dirty looks in the appointments leading up to this one. When I can't say what I want it shows all over my face !! They did this with patience and humour and lots of explanations of procedures. This led up to my appointment today.

I am proud to say I did not take any Ativan - advised by Shouresh and made it through the whole procedure with no pain, palpitations or Dirty looks to the team !! I did at one point nearly bite off Shouresh's finger, however I do not do well with impressions...

My teeth look fantastic, I feel great, my experience was nothing but positive. I cried at the end of the appointment as I was so happy - for those who know me well I do not cry often (or hardly ever !!) I am so glad to have Shouresh look after my case and am very happy not only to be a patient at Sierra Centre but an employee also..... Everyone at the Centre this evening complimented my new "Look" and made me glad to be part of that team.......

Tracey's Story - Part 2

After six months of work with Shouresh I had my final inserts today. What a fantastic job, I can't believe the difference a new smile makes. Shouresh and his team have taught me to relax in the chair and trust my Doctor (this is a huge achievement - never mind the dental work). I have a beautifull smile which I give Shouresh complete credit for. He had a vision and it all came together today. I am blessed to have such a fantastic team work on my mouth and an evironment like Sierra to allow them to achieve wonderful results every time. We truly have excellence in this office everywhere we look.

Andreja's Story

As a teenager my experiences in a dentist’s chair were completely miserable and therefore I had developed a huge phobia about going to see a dentist. When I realized I had a few cavities that needed to be filled I was extremely nerves.

To my surprise my visit to see Dr. Giesbrecht was very positive; I have never met a dentist filled with so much compassion for his patients. I believe that Dr. G actually understands his patients’ fear of the pain and he does an unbelievable job of completely eliminating it. Dr. G not only did a fantastic job on my teeth, but he was able to completely calm my nerves. He even went to the extent to personally call me at home and check up on how I was doing. That is a dentist that truly cares about his patients!

My visit to see Dr. G made me realize how important it is to have a dentist with his skill and knowledge but also his support and kindness. I would like to thank Dr. G and his staff at Sierra Centre for Dental Wellness for such an encouraging experience.

I would highly recommend Dr. Giesbrecht and his staff to anyone!

Rhoda's Story - I knew at some point I would need full dentures

I started my association with Dr. Knebel about 18 years ago. I had come from another province and he was highly recommended by a friend. Dr. Knebel has earned my gratitude and highest respect over the years. I have been dealt with in all of my dental needs with respect and honesty. I had worked in the field of dentistry as a dental assistant for 15 years before leaving to pursue a career in finance. Since I had some experience in the field of dentistry it did not take me long to realize what a fine dentist and human being Dr. Knebel is.

Both Dr. Knebel and I knew that at some point I would need full dentures. For me this was going to be my nightmare. I had seen patients who had so much difficulty with their dentures and I was hoping beyond hope that I would not be one of those persons. I had been diagnosed with cancer and had to do Chemo for a six-month period. When I was done with the treatment it was decided that we would begin the work of making me a complete set of dentures. This was not a simple task because it was decided that I should have some implants in my lower jaw. These were done by Dr. Knebel & Dr. Timkiew. I was then introduced to Rob Davidson who would be doing my dentures. I love laughter and Rob Davidson was really up to the task. Rob convinced me through laughter and so much kindness that I was going to be ok. I had a total of 6 appointments to complete all the stages of getting my dentures. With each appointment Rob would say, "We both have to agree that you are happy with how these teeth look and fit." "Only then will I be happy", my dentures were completed and I was thrilled with how nice the teeth looked and how comfortable they were. Rob told me that there would probably be additional appointments for sore spots and adjustments that may be needed, I had a total of 4 appointments to make adjustments to my new dentures. Rob always showed concern and care when I appeared to solve the problems I was having. I now have a set of the best-looking best-fitting dentures in Calgary. Rob with his knowledge, professionalism and sense of fun made all of this so easy. This man is so good at what he does. I could not give him a higher recommendation.

Amie's Story - How braces changed my life!

"When I first moved to Canada my teeth fit into the British stereotypical category of crooked and crowded. It never occurred to me that I could have them fixed, until I was actually sat in the office with pink gunk being forced into my mouth, for dental impressions.

The two years of braces were painful at times, and not to mention very inconvenient when you wanted to eat a whole apple or popcorn, but I wouldn’t change any of it for the world. Looking back at pictures of myself in grade eight, you can see how my jaw was off centre, and my teeth all shifted to one side.

You compare it to a picture of me now and the difference is amazing. I have obviously grown in the last five years, since the pictures were taken, but you can still see the transformation. And this may sound crazy, but now when I’m smiling for a photo it’s a natural smile, not one where at the time you were saying to yourself, “I really hope this turns out better than the last picture.” And even then, before braces very few pictures showed my teeth. Most were a somewhat forced smile with my lips pressed together.

No longer do I fit into the stereotypical group of British with bad teeth. People hear the accent but are confused by the fantastic smile. I find myself smiling all the time, and that’s no exaggeration. Even two years later, after having my braces removed, I still get compliments. People who have known me for ages still, when talking to me, stop me mid-sentence and say, “Wow, your teeth are perfect” It always manages to make my day and I absolutely love my smile now. "

Edyta's Story - Why I love Invisalign

I used to be self-conscious about my smile and I wasn't receptive to having traditional braces. That all changed when a friend recommended that I give Invisalign braces a try. I couldn't believe how convenient, non-obstructive and most of all how virtually invisible they are! I can remove my Invisaligns any time so they don't interfere with my everyday life.

Jacquie's Story - Self conscious of my smile

For as long as I can remember I have always been self conscious of my front teeth because of the gap in between them. I eventually had the gap closed with bonding which made me feel a little better about them but I had to be careful what I ate because the bonding wasn’t very strong and would break quite easily.

When I moved to Calgary I met with Dr Rootes and he had me rate my smile on a scale of 1 to 10. He asked me what he could do to make my number higher. He provided me with several options and I decided to go with veneers on my four front teeth. I have always been nervous about the dentist due to past experiences not being very favorable. Dr Rootes always asks you during the procedures, "How are you doing?" or "Are you feeling anything?" It’s nice to know that making sure you are comfortable, is one of his priorities. The whole process was very quick and easy. The end result is amazing!!! I don’t think I have ever smiled this much in my life and I am no longer ashamed of the way that my teeth look. Throughout the whole process, Dr Rootes and Nicole worked with me, both being extremely understanding and caring. I felt safe and had total trust in them.

They have definitely changed my outlook on going to the dentist and I am no longer as nervous. I would without doubt recommend Dr. Rootes to all my family, friends and colleagues. I feel very fortunate to have met Dr. Rootes and to have him as my dentist. He went above and beyond all the expectations that I had.

Kim's Story - Embarrassed about my front teeth

Just a quick note to say thank you so much for the work you did on my teeth. My front teeth were something I have always been a bit embarrassed about and I can honestly say that, since having the work done on them, I now hold my head higher, am not embarrassed to smile and it has given me an overall confidence boost.

The care that I received from the Sierra Centre for Dental Wellness, in particular from Dr. Dan Roots and Nicole was above and beyond any dental experience I have ever been through in the past. The care was personal, I truly believed that you cared about me and that the work that you did was top notch.

I do not know how to thank you enough for a job well done. I would recommend you to anyone and everyone.

"Pain Free, Quickly"

After at least 10 days of a toothache I phoned the Sierra Centre and received an immediate appointment with Dr. Giesbrecht 3 hours later that day. The problem with the tooth was identified and root canal work was scheduled 2 days later. Dr Giesbrecht and his assistant were an efficient team, completing two long (1.25mm) narrow root canals plus a temporary filling in the process. In less than one hour they were done and had saved my existing crown.

No subsequent pain was experienced and I even received a follow up call from Dr. Giesbrecht two days later to see how I was doing which was appreciated."

"We Could Fix Everything

My name is Leslie and I have been a patient of Dr. Giesbrecht and his team for the past two years. I came to Dr. Giesbrecht just after a year of grueling chemo therapy treatments. As a result of my chemo and the stress of my cancer I had managed to crack and or break several teeth. My teeth were a mess and I was both reluctant and terrified to contemplate any more invasive treatments. I cried the first time Dr. Giesbrecht took my hand and told me we could fix everything. It had been a long road of stress fractures, root canals, inlays and most recently a bridge. Dr Giesbrecht is always available; often calling in evenings and weekends to check on me. He and his team are truly kind and compassionate. He is professional and optimistic and always takes the time to explain procedures and alternative treatments. I walked into Sierra Dental having recently moved from Toronto. I asked for someone with compassion and experience and was directed to Dr. Giesbrecht and his wonderful team. Unfortunately, I don’t think he has seen the last of me. However I can say that I walk into the clinic less afraid, knowing that I am receiving the best possible care."

"Service Stands OUT

My emergency dental call at midnight Wednesday was returned promptly at 7:30 Am Thursday morning. The receptionist asked how soon could we get there and told me they would be ready for me. Twenty two minutes later I was in the chair meeting my new dentist friend Frank Giesbrecht. In thirty minutes he got me out of pain and able to rehearse and perform for the weekend. He knew exactly how to proceed through this for me. Dr. Giesbrecht phoned me from the office, the airport and twice from a seminar he was attending in the United States over the next few days. He helped with pain management over the weekend and took steps to assure the proper procedure on Monday morning. I have always taken pride in my performing abilities but the success of that weekend is definitely attributed to my new dentist friend Frank Giesbrecht. Thank you Frank and your wonderful reception staff as well.

"A Way Around TMJ

I suffer from TMJ. As a result, a trip to the dentist for anything extensive is almost impossible as I cannot open my mouth wide enough for an extended period of time. I decided to try sedation dentistry and nothing could have been easier. The dentist gave me medication for sleeping the night before and a pill to take one hour before the appointment. There was no pain and no residual effects other than sleepiness after the appointment. I would highly recommend this type of dentistry."

Although I did not win the contest, it was a wonderful personal development experience in confidence that I will use throughout my life. As a contestant for the Mrs. Calgary Pageant, comes business opportunities and challenges that I would never otherwise think of.
